When preparing to build an enclosure for your degus, or after completing a cage clean - it can be a good idea to add new themes, new materials and try new layouts. This experimentation is beneficial for the owner as it can allow your enclosure to become a focal point of the room. More importantly, this experimentation is great for the degus; it provides much needed enrichment...

When building a degu enclosure, you will often find that only 2 choices are made with regards to doors:
I have recently been in touch (via email) with a kindly gentleman by the name of Thomas Cunningham. He got in touch with me after seeing the Degu Chronicle website and was inspired to forge ahead with a DIY enclosure. I am very pleased he did as he has done a very fantastic job, not only this but he has been organised enough to document the building process and allow me to share the results here with you!
Without further a due, please read on past the break to see this picture heavy post. Today I spent about 2 hours doing a major overhaul on the degu's enclosure. I removed all the accessories and old bedding and hoovered out every nook and cranny. I disinfected all the toys, shelves, ledges and walls. I cleaned the glass front of the enclosure and hoovered all around the base. I am seriously beginning to consider getting a job in a zoo! Anyway, I refilled the enclosure with fresh bedding and re-arranged the toys. The good news is that its (raining!?) summer! So all the trees and plants are back in full leaf, this means I was able to take some foliage from the nearby trees to add to the degu's home.

Before I begin, I also wanted to say a quick thank you to esteemed degu owner Nightwishraven999 - who helped me write this article.
After the break you can see some pictures of my degus and some accessories that are kept in the enclosure. Click the break for more degus!
